Goodwin Academy Sixth Form is a dynamic and innovative place to learn, that will enable young people to be their BEST and achieve their full potential during their time here.

Students studying in the Sixth Form at Goodwin Academy receive high quality education in a caring, safe, inclusive environment.

Term Dates and Events

Our curriculum offers a broad range of qualifications tailored to suit the needs to our learners and is well sequenced so that students can build on their knowledge and skills and will enable them to succeed and fulfil their ambitions. The Sixth form offers both Advanced and Vocational subjects, as well as GCSE English and Maths resits if required. Alongside the academic curriculum students within the Sixth Form follow a structured PSHE curriculum that is designed to promote their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. Students will study a range of topics designed to prepare them for life outside of school, including sessions such as safer driving and managing finances. Students can expect to leave our school equipped with the tools for future success in higher education, training or the world of work, building essential life skills to complement their academic success.

An Enrichment Course is timetabled with the whole year group together; this enables us to offer a robust programme including study skills and regular guest speakers. The Enrichment Course also includes the opportunity to take part in student selected projects that support the community or allow for the pursuit of hobbies and interests.

Sixth form students are the leaders of the school, running our Junior Leadership Team as ambassadors for the school. Our Sixth form are role models for the younger students, influencing aspects of school life such as teaching and learning, the environment and diversity. They support learning across the school at all Key Stages.

Students are provided with careers information, advice and educational guidance (CIAEG) within their PSHE sessions, and will have the opportunity to research their post-18 options and apply for university courses, apprenticeships and other alternative pathways. Work experience also takes place during Year 12 and this can take place to meet the needs of the learner; this may be a one-week block, one day a week for a term or a morning a week for 3 months, this is flexible to meet the needs of the individual students.

We offer excellent pastoral care and guidance. There are many challenges that young people face and our dedicated and experienced Sixth Form team support our young people through this crucial period in their lives so that they feel safe, nurtured and able to reach their full potential.

Meet our Student Leadership Team

Matthew Walker - President

I'm proud to have the opportunity to serve as Student President this year. My role involves enhancing and expanding student facilities while also empowering student voice and leading our school council.

My academic journey at Goodwin Academy started in 2017 and has equipped me with expertise and skills in leadership, management and communication. In addition I am passionate about making a meaningful impact on the student experience at our school and making Goodwin academy a first choice for future students.

Daisy Foy - Vice-President

Hello, I’m Daisy and I am proud to be this year’s Vice-President. I chose to apply for this roles as I am extremely empathetic, intuitive and have a strong moral compass and would like to help the teachers and SLT build on Goodwin’s strengths to create the best environment for learning.

I make myself available to talk to and help the teachers run projects, and anything else they may need assistance with. I have had a variety of experiences outside of school support me in this role, from being a good team member when cleaning caravans all summer and giving outstanding customer service being a receptionist at a swimming pool to being a young carer for my younger sister who lives with ADHD and volunteering weekly at Deal Library.

Eve Hudson - Sporting Ambassador

Hi, I’m Eve and I am the Sporting Ambassador at Goodwin Academy. As a young child I was always playing football with my friends and family. I applied for the Sporting Ambassador role as I want to inspire girls to join the girls football team at Goodwin Academy.

I will be supporting many other clubs the school provides, alongside encouraging children to try new sports they may not have heard of and will hopefully enjoy.

Scarlet-Rose Stevens - Literacy Ambassador

Hi, I’m Scarlet, and I am the Literacy Ambassador. I’ve always had a deep love for literacy and literature and have particularly enjoyed reading since I was young. I believe that more kids in school should be encouraged to read, as it greatly improves their ability to write, spelling and grammar.

I believe that it will benefit the children in school to read more to expand their minds and be inspired by literature, as that knowledge will serve them for the rest of their lives.

Mia Robinson - Literacy Ambassador Support

Hi, I’m Mia, and I am the Literacy Ambassador support. As a younger child, I loved to read, so I applied for this role to inspire more people to read.

As part of my role, I want to support the Literacy Ambassador to embed reading as part of the school and inspire our students, young and old, to value key language and to help them to achieve their goals.

Our Sixth Form community is built on mutual respect and contributes to the wider community through student leadership roles. We offer a welcoming environment with a student body full of energy and determination to  succeed.
