Brunel

Brunel

The aim of Brunel House is to follow in this renowned engineer’s footsteps. We have aspirations to Create, Imagine and Innovate through the persistent hard work of the Brunel House members. It is our goal to better ourselves, leading to the improvement of the world around us. Our members believe that through hard work and determination, there is little we cannot achieve.

Our patron, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, was an Engineer, Innovator and Dreamer. His dream was to build a better world, which culminated through his work towards the national railway, transatlantic shipping, dockyards, tunnels and bridges. His innovation empowered the country to be a world leader during the Industrial Revolution.

Brunel is considered as ‘one of the most ingenious and prolific figures in engineering history, one of the 19th Century engineering giants.’ (Spratt, H.P. 1958). His influence on the country is remarkable, due to his persistence and leadership of his workers to create feats of engineering that are still in use today.

"As an Artist, Engineer and Teacher, it is my role to inspire the next generation, to motivate them to want to become better versions of themselves. In an attempt to enrich the way they interpret their surroundings, I have encouraged members of my House to view problems from different perspectives, in order to innovate new solutions that will benefit all."

Goodwin Gateways

Persistence is a hard habit to develop but at Goodwin Academy our teaching and support mechanisms allow students to grow in confidence, so when faced with a challenge or a fear that they are not good enough, young people will learn to pick themselves up and carry on the path to success.

Are we always truly clear about our thought processes and the ideas that form our opinions? We will understand others better and therefore empathise more successfully if we have an understanding of what shapes us and thinking about our thinking is the key.

Brunel House Charity

Great Ormond Street Hospital is an organisation that works effortlessly to improve quality of life for terminally ill children. The charity shares our ethos, which is demonstrated through their efforts to help others in need, serving to improve not only the health of those who are ill, but to support their families through some of the most challenging times they may face.

Through pioneering medical breakthroughs, doctors and nurses “Create, Imagine and Innovate” as they support the needs of their patients and their families, which is remarkable.

Great Ormond Street was selected as Brunel House Charity due to the care and support given to my family at our time of need. Through performing eye surgery on my son when he was two, the staff at the hospital successfully improved the quality of his vision. This allowed our son a chance to experience the world around him anew, for which my wife and I will always be grateful.

Our support of this hospital will help the organisation to continue their world efforts to support and care those in need, improving their lives beyond measure.
