Dear Parents and Carers,

We are pleased to inform you that the measures taken to raise the temperature inside the school have been successful, and the building is now at a suitable and comfortable temperature for effective learning.

As a result, school is open as normal for all pupils today.

Full school uniform is expected, and students may wear base layers under their school uniform for additional warmth if they wish.

Please also refer back to the start-of-term letter for details on uniform expectations and the changes to school entrances in the mornings.

We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked to resolve these issues. Your support has been greatly appreciated.

We look forward to welcoming all students into school today.

Year 10 Work Experience

May 19, 2023 01:05pm

Recently, the Year 10 students at Goodwin Academy had the exciting opportunity to take part in a Work Experience week. The week took place from 9th - 12th May and consisted of a two-day placement that students had organised themselves. Having our students arrange their own placements simulated the process of finding a job and applying for it, which has supported learners in understanding the application process for new jobs.

In addition to the work placement, two days were spent in school, where students enjoyed a range of talks from guest speakers who came in to run workshops. Some of the workshops were led by the Border Force, the Army, and Christchurch STEM ambassadors, while others focused on CV writing and interview skills provided by career service professionals. These workshops gave our learners meaningful encounters with employers and broadened their horizons for future career opportunities.

We have received positive feedback from our students, who have been inspired about their future career prospects.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and offered their expertise to our students. Your advice was invaluable.
