Students at Goodwin Academy rejoice after opening their A-Level results today

Goodwin Academy students have faced a difficult few years in their educations, with the disruption of the pandemic but through hard work and perseverance they have excelled, and the academy is celebrating another year of strong results for students. Many students are now preparing to head on to the university, apprenticeship or job of their choice.

The academy saw particular success in BTEC Applied Science, Cambridge Technicals Health and Social Care with 78% of students achieving a Distinction*, Distinction or Merit, BTEC Sport with 100% of students achieving a Distinction or Merit and BTEC Public Services with 82% of students achieving a double Distinction *, Distinction or Merit

The results also saw A Level reintroduction with students completing A-Level Art and Photography with the Academy offering further A levels this academic year in History and English Literature with the view to expand our A level offering further in future years.

While all students have done well, there are some standout individual achievements within our vocational qualifications. These include:

  • Brooke Ellis who successfully achieved Distinction* Distinction* Distinction in BTEC Public Services and BTEC Sport and has secured both a university place at University of Kent studying criminology and cultural studies and a border force apprenticeship. Brooke is now making the difficult decision in which to route to take.
  • Ryan Fudge who successfully achieved Distinction, Distinction, Distinction in BTEC Public Services and BTEC Business and is exploring a career in the police force.
  • Maisie Harkins who successfully achieved Distinction, Distinction, Distinction Cambridge Technicals Health and social care and BTEC Psychology and has secured her place at the university of Lincoln to study Health and Social Care after taking a gap year
  • Amelia Roberts who successfully achieved Distinction*, Distinction, Merit in BTEC Public Services and BTEC Sport
  • Amelie Merrin who successfully achieved Distinction*, Distinction, Merit in Cambridge Technicals Health and Social Care and BTEC Psychology has secured a place to study psychology at university.
  • Peter Vallance who successfully achieved Distinction, Distinction, Merit in BTEC Public Services and BTEC Sport
  • Millie Hibbert who successfully achieved Distinction, Distinction, Merit in Cambridge Technicals Health and Social Care and BTEC Psychology who has secured a place at Canterbury Christ Church University to study nursing
  • Amy Corbet who successfully achieved Distinction, Distinction, Merit in Cambridge Technicals Health and Social Care and BTEC Psychology who has secured employment in Health Care
  • Finley Aldred who successfully achieved Distinction, Distinction, Merit in BTEC Public Services and BTEC Business who has gained employment in retail.
  • Joshua Windsor who successfully achieved Merit, Merit, Merit in BTEC Public Services and BTEC Sport and has secured a place at the university of Brighton to study criminology.
  • Hazel Dower who successfully achieved a Merit in BTEC Business and CC in A-Level Art and Photography and is looking to pursue a career in the RAF.
  • Bertie Shaw who successfully achieved a Distinction* in BTEC Psychology and BCD in A-Level Extended Project, Art and Photography

Collecting her A Level results today, Maisie Harkins, said:

"I feel very proud of my achievements, I have been fully supported through my time at Goodwin. The teachers have been brilliant and I have really enjoyed my education at Goodwin. I am excited about the next chapter in my life."
