GCSE success celebrated at Goodwin Academy

Goodwin Academy students are celebrating this morning having picked up their GCSE results.

The results reflect the hard work shown by students following two years of studies and the support given by dedicated staff and families.

The school, which is located on Hamilton Road and part of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, is particularly proud of the strong improvements recorded in mathematics and science. Students have made substantial progress in these subjects, demonstrating the impact of their hard work and the school’s commitment to providing high-quality teaching and learning opportunities.

Alongside the school's overall success, many pupils have achieved exceptional individual results, including:

  • Vincent Abbey achieved a Distinction in creative media, Grade 6 in English language and English literature, mathematics, combined science and history, a Merit in music, and Grade 5 in art, craft and design.
  • Bart Szymczak achieved Grade 8 in history, English language and English literature, a Merit in creative media production, Grade 5 in mathematics, combined science and business studies, and a Pass in music.
  • Phoebe Holton achieved Grade 6 in biology, chemistry, mathematics, geography, and food preparation and nutrition, Grade 5 in French and physics, and Grade 4 in English language and English literature.

 

Collecting his GCSE results today, Vincent said:  

"I'm delighted with my results, especially achieving a Distinction in Creative Media. It's rewarding to see my hard work recognised, and I'm thankful to my teachers for their encouragement and support. I am excited about the opportunities ahead as I take my next steps studying at East Kent College at Canterbury focusing on Classics and Fine Art - with the ultimate ambition of being a History teacher." 

Collecting his GCSE results today, Bart said: 

"I'm thrilled with my results, especially achieving 3 Grade 8s, which I'm incredibly proud of. I've worked hard throughout my studies, and it's rewarding to see that dedication pay off. I'm looking forward to taking my next steps at The Harris Academy in London." 

Collecting her GCSE results today, Phoebe said: 

"I'm delighted with my results. It's rewarding to see all my hard work pay off, and I'm grateful to everyone who supported me along the way. I'm excited for what comes next at Canterbury College where I will be studying Mechanics”

Phil Jones, Headteacher at Goodwin Academy, said:

“We are incredibly proud of all our students and the results they have achieved this year. These outcomes reflect the hard work, determination and resilience our young people have shown throughout their time at the school, as well as the dedication and support of our staff and families. We are especially delighted by the strong improvements seen in Mathematics and Science, where students have achieved some fantastic outcomes.
