Goodwin Try’athlon

Join us for the Goodwin Try’athlon!

Our very own Mrs Cribben is completing a virtual triathlon this month with her partner. They will be undertaking an impressive 1500m swim in the local pool, cycling 40km and then finishing the challenge with a 10km run.

This type of challenge is a first for them both. They started training earlier this year in preparation, having never competed in an olympic length triathlon before. By stepping out of her comfort zone, it sparked an idea, and Mrs Cribben is now inviting the staff and students of Goodwin Academy to try something new.

Introducing the Goodwin Try’athlon!

As part of the Kent-wide School Games Organisers strategy for the legacy of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, SGO’s across the county are organising several Commonwealth Sport events alongside community clubs to ensure “a lasting legacy” of the games.

One of these sports is the Triathlon, which has been named Try’athlon to coincide with the aim to encourage new participants to have a “try” in this sport.

The Try’thlon will run as a House Competition, in a relay format.

Each house will complete:

30 lengths in Dover Leisure Swimming pool i.e. 750 metres – 1 pupil from each house/form

20km Cycling – completed in the fitness suite – 1 or 2 pupils from each house/form

5km Run – around the Goodwin academy field – 1 or 2 pupils from each house/form

Staff will monitor lengths swam and distanced travelled throughout the race. Staff will also monitor the distance completed in cycling with the result being supported by the cycle ergometer.
